Kingdom Hearts celebrates 25th anniversary with Tokyo exhibition

The Kingdom Hearts franchise is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a major exhibition in Japan. Organized by Sony Music Solutions in partnership with Walt Disney Japan and Square Enix, the ‘KINGDOM HEARTS 25th ANNIVERSARY EXHIBITION’ will run from February 5 to April 4, 2027, at the Mori Arts Center Gallery in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo. The event will feature replica Keyblades, immersive theater, photo spots recreating iconic scenes, and production materials covering the series from its inception through various spin-offs.

In development news, series creator Tetsuya Nomura and co-director Tai Yasue shared updates regarding Kingdom Hearts IV. The upcoming title is expected to feature fewer but more detailed worlds, such as the Pixar-inspired world of ‘Coco’. New gameplay mechanics are being explored, including unique movement and combat styles tailored to specific environments.

To manage the franchise's increasingly complex narrative, Square Enix has also employed a full-time loremaster. This specialist works with the Kingdom Hearts IV development team to ensure script consistency and to provide clear, visual explanations of the series' intricate lore for both internal staff and Disney partners.
