Kinglong Motors hands over 100 fuel tankers to Zambian youth cooperatives

Kinglong Motors Zambia Limited has handed over 100 fuel tankers to the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts to support the Government’s Fuel Tanker Empowerment Programme. The initiative aims to increase youth participation in the petroleum transportation sector, tackle unemployment, and help retain profits within Zambia.

The programme, launched in 2020, is expected to benefit approximately 12,000 youths through various cooperatives. The tankers were procured via a hire-purchase arrangement where the government paid 50 per cent upfront, with the balance to be settled over three years. The assets are managed through eight oil marketing companies to service the financing.

Kangwa Chileshe, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts, stated that the programme is designed to enable young Zambians to establish sustainable businesses and potentially reduce the cost of petroleum products by localizing fuel logistics. Kinglong Motors General Manager Wu Ming noted that the handover is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility and commitment to youth empowerment.
