Kings Food Markets to close two New Jersey stores and lay off 122 employees
Kings Food Markets will close two locations in New Jersey and lay off 122 employees by January 2, 2027. The closures will affect units in Hillsdale and Whitehouse Station following the expiration of lease agreements that the company will not renew.
The supermarket chain is a subsidiary of Acme Markets, which is owned by the Albertsons group. Acme Markets previously acquired Kings Food Markets for approximately $96.4 million in 2020 during a bankruptcy reorganization process.
Management has stated they will work with human resources and labor unions to attempt to transfer as many affected workers as possible to other locations within the network. Employees who are not relocated will be entitled to severance pay as stipulated by law and collective bargaining agreements.
