King's Land historical drama starring Mads Mikkelsen arrives on Netflix

The Danish historical drama “King's Land” is now available for streaming on Netflix. Starring Mads Mikkelsen, the film is set in 18th-century Denmark and follows Ludvig Kahlen, a war veteran attempting to cultivate the harsh Jutland heath.

Kahlen’s mission to transform the wasteland into farmland is undertaken in exchange for a title of nobility, a deal sanctioned by King Frederik V. This ambition draws intense hostility from the local landowner, Frederik De Schinkel, who views Kahlen as a threat to his authority.

Directed by Nikolaj Arcel, the film has been described as a “Nordic Western” due to its sweeping landscapes and stoic protagonist. While it saw limited theatrical success, the production has received praise for its visual storytelling and Mikkelsen’s performance.
