Kingsley Atta wins Bantama NPP chairmanship in narrow re-run election
Kingsley Atta has been elected as the new Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bantama Constituency. In a re-run election held on August 8, 2026, at the Kumasi Cultural Centre, Atta secured victory with a narrow margin of just four votes.
According to results certified by the Electoral Commission, Atta received 570 votes (50.2%), while the incumbent Chairman, Fiifi Mensah, received 566 votes (49.8%). This tight contest stands in stark contrast to an earlier election held on July 12, 2026, which had been annulled by the NPP’s National Steering Committee due to breaches of party directives and electoral regulations. In that initial vote, Atta had won by a larger margin of 714 votes to Mensah's 267.
Following the announcement, Atta pledged to prioritize party unity ahead of the 2028 general elections, stating, “I will be Chairman for all, and my door is open to everyone, including my brother Fiifi.” Mensah demonstrated sportsmanship by congratulating Atta and expressing his commitment to supporting the party's future efforts.
