Kingston police increase presence after fatal shooting of alleged gang leader

The Jamaica Constabulary Force has increased its security presence in the Kingston Western division following the fatal shooting of Amani Malcolm, also known as ‘Bling Dawg’. Malcolm, the 26-year-old alleged leader of the One A Way gang, was killed during a confrontation with officers at the intersection of North Street and Pink Lane in Denham Town.

Police report that during a mobile patrol, an armed struggle occurred after Malcolm allegedly pointed a firearm at an officer and engaged in a physical tussle over a service weapon. A civilian was also wounded during the exchange. An illegal firearm was seized at the scene.

The incident triggered violent protests in Denham Town, involving the burning of a vehicle and reports of an individual being assaulted and set on fire for refusing to participate. Assistant Commissioner of Police Michael Phipps stated that law enforcement has identified credible threats against officers in the division and is increasing operational activities to ensure safety.

Authorities have named Omarley Dennie, known as ‘Neily Blacks’, an alleged senior member of the One A Way gang, as a person of interest in ongoing investigations and have requested his immediate surrender.
