Kinofest 2026 draws record 2.08 million visitors to German cinemas

The Kinofest event held on September 12 and 13, 2026, drew more than 2.08 million visitors to German cinemas, marking a 26 percent increase compared to the previous year's 1.65 million visitors.

According to Rentrak data, this was the strongest cinema weekend in Germany in 20 years, with only the 2005 period seeing higher attendance. Sunday alone accounted for approximately 1.12 million admissions, the highest Sunday attendance since the Christmas week of 2003. The initiative involved over 700 cinemas offering a uniform ticket price of five euros to encourage both regular and infrequent moviegoers.

Leading the program were ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and Christopher Nolan’s ‘Die Odyssee’. Other successful titles included ‘Das gewisse Etwas’, ‘PAW Patrol: Der Dino Film’, and ‘Minions & Monster’. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has reached over five million total admissions in Germany, while ‘Die Odyssee’ has surpassed four million.
