Kinoforum festival returns to São Paulo with 260 short films

The 37th edition of Kinoforum, the São Paulo International Short Film Festival, is taking place from August 20 to 30, 2026. The festival features a free program of 260 short films, consisting of 127 Brazilian and 133 international productions from 58 countries.

This edition marks the first since the passing of founder and producer Zita Carvalhosa. To honor her legacy, a new award named after her has been established to support debuting Brazilian filmmakers, offering a prize of R$ 20,000 to the winner. The selection includes works previously showcased at major international festivals such as Cannes, Locarno, Berlin, and Sundance.

Screenings are distributed across various cultural spaces in São Paulo, including the Cinemateca Brasileira, CineSesc, and the Museu da Imagem e do Som (MIS). The festival also includes 'Curta & Mercado', a branch dedicated to the audiovisual industry through workshops, lectures, and business rounds.
