Kinshasa authorities intensify urban sanitation and public space reclamation

The Presidential Task Force and the National Service Builders are intensifying sanitation efforts in Kinshasa to combat urban filth and mismanagement of public spaces. This initiative includes clearing illegal markets, removing unauthorized terraces, and reclaiming public rights-of-way in various communes, including Limete, Matete, Bandalungwa, and Ngaliema.

Authorities are implementing a dual approach of enforcement and education. While a new awareness campaign encourages citizens to take collective responsibility for the city's cleanliness, officials have warned that individuals caught littering or engaging in uncivil behavior will face sanctions. The operations have already resulted in improved traffic fluidity and reduced noise pollution in several residential areas.
