Kinshasa hosts forest code reforms and global diplomacy summit

In Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has initiated two significant proceedings focused on national development and resource management.

Minister of Environment Marie Nyange Ndambo has launched the second extraordinary session of the National Consultative Council for Forests (CCNF). The session aims to review and modernize the draft forest code, which has not been updated since 2002. The reform seeks to address contemporary challenges such as the carbon market, peatlands, ecosystem services, and climate change mitigation to ensure sustainable forest exploitation and community participation.

Simultaneously, the World Summit of Diplomacy has opened at the Kinshasa Cultural Center. The summit, themed ‘DRC, Heart of Africa: Contemporary Diplomacy as a Lever for Promoting Sustainable Development’, focuses on utilizing diplomacy to foster economic opportunities and sustainable partnerships. The event emphasizes the role of youth and the strategic importance of the DRC’s natural and mineral resources in building long-term international cooperation.
