Kinshasa investigates driver protests in Mongala province

A high-level delegation from Kinshasa has arrived in the Mongala province to investigate violent unrest in Lisala. The mission, which includes officials from the Ministry of the Interior, the Court of Cassation, and the Presidency, met with interim Governor Félix Mosaka Libanza and provincial deputies to gather information regarding disturbances that occurred on October 21 and 23, 2026.

The violence reportedly stemmed from a protest by motorcycle taxi drivers against rising license plate registration fees. The delegation held an expanded meeting with the provincial security committee to assess the security situation, determine responsibilities, and discuss measures to prevent future unrest. The investigation is expected to continue through the end of the week.
