Kinshasa Police Arrest 578 Suspected Kuluna Gang Members in Gombe

The Kinshasa police carried out a two‑day patrol in the Gombe commune on July 29‑30, targeting urban bandits known as the Kuluna. Under the command of Commissioner Divisionnaire Israël Kantu, officers detained a total of 578 people: 487 men, 50 women—most identified as night‑time sex workers—and 37 minors. The operation focused on hot‑spot streets around Socimat, near the French embassy, the Rotana Hotel and the Gombe River.

Kantu said the crackdown is part of a broader effort to restore state authority and curb the wave of urban crime that has plagued the capital for months. He announced that similar intensified patrols will be gradually extended to other communes in Kinshasa to improve public safety and order.
