Kinshasa Task Force and municipal authorities establish sanitation collaboration

The Presidential Task Force for the sanitation of Kinshasa and municipal authorities have established a collaborative framework to coordinate urban cleaning and combat the unauthorized occupation of public spaces. A working meeting held on August 29 brought together the command of the Service national, the City Hall, and the mayors of the capital's 24 communes to clarify responsibilities and harmonize operations.

Lieutenant-General Jean-Pierre Kasongo Kabwik, coordinator of the Task Force, emphasized that the deployment of the Service national is intended to support, rather than replace, existing municipal services. He noted that the Task Force's involvement is temporary and that its members, referred to as ‘nation builders,’ were trained for specialized trades rather than permanent sanitation work.

Provincial Minister of Environment Léon Mulumba acknowledged that collaboration mechanisms had not been clearly defined prior to the launch of operations. The new framework aims to ensure continuity of work and improve coordination between the various administrative entities.
