Kinshasa to launch TRAK traffic project in January 2027

Jean-Pierre Bemba, the Vice-Prime Minister in charge of Transport, Ways of Communication, and Opening Up, has announced the upcoming Transit Rapide Aéroport-Kinshasa (TRAK) project. The initiative aims to alleviate chronic traffic congestion in Kinshasa, specifically targeting the route between N’Djili International Airport and the city center via Boulevard Lumumba.

Presented to the Senate, the project is described as a major transformation that includes the construction of 18 elevated bridges, two tunnel underpasses, and 40 pedestrian crossings. While the project has been approved by the Council of Ministers, it is currently in the detailed study and financial structuring phase. Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2027, with officials actively engaging private partners to secure necessary funding.
