Kinterra Capital acquires land for battery component factory near Opole

Canadian private equity fund Kinterra Capital has finalized the purchase of approximately 44 hectares of industrial land near Opole, Poland, for roughly 70 million PLN. This marks the fund's first investment in the European market.

The project aims to establish a factory for lithium-ion battery components, including cathode precursor materials (pCAM), lithium compounds, and technologies for recycling materials from used batteries. The facility is intended to serve both the electromobility sector and energy storage markets, with a potential operational start date in 2032.

Kinterra took over the project following the financial difficulties of the previous American investor, Ascend Elements. The investment is supported by a Polish government subsidy valued at approximately 1.22 billion PLN. Currently, the fund is conducting engineering work, design studies, and economic analyses to optimize production technology and determine the final implementation model. The project aligns with European efforts to reduce reliance on Asian suppliers for critical battery materials.
