Widespread freeze warnings issued across multiple US regions
Multiple regions across the United States are facing sub-freezing temperatures and freeze warnings, followed by a significant warming trend.
In the Midwest, Iowa has issued freeze warnings for 80 counties, with temperatures potentially dropping into the upper 20s in northern areas. Similar cold conditions are expected in Nebraska and southern Minnesota, where residents should prepare for chilly starts to the day. In the Mid-Atlantic, freeze watches have been issued for parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, warning of potential damage to crops and outdoor plumbing.
In the Southwest, New Mexico is under a freeze warning with temperatures expected to fall into the 20s and 30s. Colorado's Kiowa County is also under a freeze watch, with officials noting a high potential for a widespread hard freeze.
Despite the immediate cold, a warming trend is expected to move through much of these regions by the middle of next week. Forecasts indicate temperatures climbing into the 60s and 70s across the Upper Midwest, Nebraska, and parts of the Southwest as milder air moves in.
