Kioxia and SanDisk Begin 10th‑Gen 3D Flash Memory Production at Kitakami Plant in Japan

Kioxia Corporation and SanDisk Corporation announced the start of production of their 10th‑generation 3D NAND flash memory at the Fab2 (K2) facility in Kitakami, Iwate, Japan. The plant, designed to resist earthquakes, uses advanced AI‑driven manufacturing equipment and energy‑efficient processes to boost efficiency and capacity. Both companies highlighted that the new generation employs CMOS‑direct‑to‑array (CBA) technology, delivering higher performance, larger capacity and lower power consumption for the growing artificial‑intelligence market.

The joint‑venture agreement between Kioxia and SanDisk has been extended to December 2034, underscoring a partnership of more than 25 years. Executives said the launch will create new economic opportunities for local communities and exemplify strong U.S.–Japan economic ties. Production of the 8th‑generation products is already underway, with the Fab2 facility slated for full commercial operation by September 2025.
