Kioxia announces LD4 SSD series with up to 122.88 TB capacity

Kioxia has announced the LD4 SSD series, designed to provide high-density storage solutions for data centers. Utilizing the E1.L form factor, these drives are specifically engineered to increase storage density in 1U servers and large-scale cloud infrastructures.

The series employs eighth-generation BiCS FLASH 3D QLC NAND technology, which stores four bits of data per cell to maximize capacity within a physical footprint. While the architecture supports capacities up to 122.88 TB, the company is currently shipping 15.36 TB and 30.72 TB samples to select customers for functional testing.

Technically, the LD4 series complies with the PCIe 5.0 specification, though it operates at PCIe 4.0 x4 transfer speeds with 16 GT/s per lane. The drives also support NVMe 2.0e and the OCP Datacenter NVMe SSD 2.6 specification. Kioxia plans to showcase the series at the OCP Global Summit in San Jose.
