Kioxia GP Series SSD Wins Best of Show Award, Targets AI Workloads with GPU‑Direct PCIe 6.0

Kioxia Corporation announced its GP Series PCIe 6.0 NVMe SSD, the first super‑high IOPS storage device optimized for direct GPU access. The GP1 SSD delivers up to 10 million random read IOPS with 512‑byte blocks, providing a high‑performance flash tier that can extend high‑bandwidth memory for artificial‑intelligence (AI) systems.

The product was recognized with the “Best of Show” award in the Specialized Storage category at the Future of Memory and Storage (FMS) event. George Mullins, conference director for FMS, said storage is becoming a critical enabler of next‑generation AI infrastructure and praised the GP Series for its forward‑looking architecture.

Kioxia also highlighted the economic advantage of the SSD over high‑bandwidth memory (HBM). Neville Ichhaporia, senior vice‑president and general manager of Kioxia’s SSD division, noted that the XL‑FLASH memory used in the drives offers a much lower cost per gigabyte than HBM or DRAM‑based extensions, making it attractive for hyperscale data‑center operators building AI‑focused facilities.
