Eldoret hosts Kenya's 63rd Mashujaa Day celebrations

President William Ruto presided over Kenya's 63rd Mashujaa Day celebrations at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret. The event, co-hosted by Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Elgeyo-Marakwet counties, honored 264 national heroes, including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who was recognized for his role in the struggle for multiparty democracy.

During his address, President Ruto proposed several economic measures ahead of the 2027 General Election. These include exempting workers earning up to Sh32,333 per month from Pay As You Earn (PAYE) tax, scrapping stamp duty on land transactions valued at Sh1 million or less, and removing the 25 per cent import duty on mobile phones. He also pledged to create 50,000 additional paid internships for youth starting in January 2027 and announced an additional Sh5 billion injection into the Hustler Fund.

Addressing infrastructure, the President committed to completing the Kipchoge Keino Stadium with a full canopy to prepare it for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The stadium, which has reached 78 per cent completion, is intended to serve as a training venue for the continental tournament, which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.
