Kiran Kaur faces deportation from UK after son's murder conviction
Kiran Kaur, an Indian national, may face deportation to India following her early release from a UK prison. Kaur was sentenced to three years in jail for concealing a weapon used in the murder of 18-year-old Henry Nowak in Southampton on December 3, 2025.
Her son, Vikram Digwa, was convicted of the stabbing murder and received a life sentence, with a minimum requirement of 21 years in prison. During the trial, Digwa argued that the weapon used, a kirpan, was a religious symbol used in self-defense, but the court rejected this justification.
Kaur's potential early release is part of a government initiative to reduce prison overcrowding. However, under UK regulations, foreign nationals serving sentences of 12 months or more are typically subject to deportation proceedings. An appeal regarding the sentences is scheduled for hearing on November 5.
