Kirby Smart suggests Curt Cignetti would face greater difficulty in the SEC

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has suggested that Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti may struggle to replicate his current success if he were coaching within the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Smart noted the difficulty of the SEC, stating, “It’s tough, tough, tough sledding, week-in and week-out.”

Cignetti, who previously worked on Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama, has led Indiana to notable victories against programs such as Ohio State, Oregon, and Miami. The comments highlight an ongoing tension between the SEC and the Big Ten, with Cignetti previously criticizing the SEC for what he perceives as a “hype machine.”
