Justin Verlander retires as Pirates clinch winning season

Major League Baseball saw two significant milestones during the final games of the season. Justin Verlander, a three-time Cy Young winner and future Hall of Famer, officially retired after a 21-season career. In an emotional farewell at Comerica Park, Verlander was joined on the mound by his daughter, Genevieve, as he completed his final start against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Verlander finished his career with 3,560 strikeouts, ranking eighth all-time.

In the same series, the Pittsburgh Pirates secured their first winning season since 2018. The Pirates defeated the Detroit Tigers 4-2 in their season finale, finishing with an 82-80 record. Konnor Griffin led the Pirates with a leadoff home run and an RBI single, contributing to an 11-win improvement over the previous season. The Tigers finished the year at 76-86.
