Kirchhellen restores Wappenbaum landmark after two-year delay
The Wappenbaum, a local landmark in Kirchhellen, has been re-erected at Hans-Büning-Platz following a nearly two-year delay. The original tree had to be dismantled in late 2024 due to wood disease.
The replacement project faced several setbacks, including bureaucratic hurdles and technical challenges regarding the tree's diameter and structural stability, which required additional permits. The new tree is constructed from pressure-treated coniferous wood intended to be more durable than its predecessor.
Decorated with more than 40 club emblems representing local community life, the monument was officially celebrated with a ceremony on October 18. The project was supported by various organizations, including the Egon-Bremer-Stiftung, the Korte-Stiftung, and the Vereinte Volksbank.
