Kiren Rijiju criticizes Opposition disruptions and Pawan Khera's remarks

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has engaged in a series of political disputes involving the Opposition and Congress leader Pawan Khera.

Regarding parliamentary proceedings, Rijiju criticized the Opposition for frequent disruptions during the Monsoon Session. He argued that while the Constitution permits questioning the government, it does not grant the right to halt proceedings when political demands are unmet. Rijiju noted that the Lok Sabha functioned for only 15 per cent of its scheduled time, while the Rajya Sabha operated for 33 per cent. He specifically highlighted that Question Hour in the Lok Sabha lasted for barely 1 per cent of its allotted time.

Separately, Rijiju responded to remarks made by Pawan Khera concerning a video of the Minister swimming. Rijiju characterized Khera’s comments as “abusive” and “indecent,” asserting that he swims with villagers to inspire them. He also threatened to report Khera’s conduct to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The dispute followed Khera’s social media posts suggesting that BJP leaders are obsessed with Rahul Gandhi.
