Kiril Valchev calls for adoption of Bulgarian Language Act

Vice presidential candidate Kiril Valchev has called for the adoption of a Bulgarian Language Act. During meetings with cultural and educational figures in Ruse, Valchev noted that the Constitution provides for such legislation.

Valchev emphasized the need for consensus regarding mandatory Bulgarian signage and the use of Bulgarian fonts. He highlighted his previous experience as Director General of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA), where he introduced the LIK font, developed by the National Academy of Arts based on 9th-century Cyrillic characters.

Furthermore, the candidate proposed that the law should establish a unified visual identity for Bulgarian cities, including Ruse, by regulating signage. He suggested that the law should also set minimum requirements for the use of foreign languages in signage to ensure the country remains accessible to tourists and competitive in the tourism sector.
