Kirinyaga police seize suspected counterfeit alcohol in Mwea raid
Police in Kirinyaga County have seized a large quantity of suspected counterfeit alcohol during a raid on a residential property in Kangai, Mwea. The operation followed public tips alleging that illicit alcohol was being manufactured, packaged, and distributed to local bars from the premises.
Kirinyaga Police Commander Anderson Njagi reported that officers recovered 157 empty crates of various brands, including Jambo Ice and Santa King, which are suspected to be used for repackaging and sealing counterfeit products. Several suspected counterfeit brands, such as Dallas, Trigger, Jambo, and Santa Ice, were also identified.
The raid comes amid renewed health concerns in the region, as Kangai village has previously experienced numerous deaths linked to illicit liquor consumption.
