Kirk Cousins named Las Vegas Raiders starting quarterback

Kirk Cousins has been named the starting quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders for the upcoming NFL season opener against the Miami Dolphins. Coach Klint Kubiak confirmed the decision following a training camp competition that included veteran Cousins, Aidan O’Connell, and top draft pick Fernando Mendoza.

Cousins, entering his 15th NFL season, earned the role after a strong preseason where he completed 76.5 percent of his passes for 101 yards and one touchdown. The decision favors the veteran's experience as the Raiders look to improve their standing in the AFC West.

Fernando Mendoza, the former Indiana University quarterback and first overall draft selection, will remain with the team to learn the offensive system under Kubiak. The Raiders' coaching staff emphasized the importance of Mendoza working frequently under center to adapt to the professional level.
