Kirklees Council celebrates children in care at Shining Stars awards

Hundreds of children and young people in care across Kirklees were honoured at the council’s annual Shining Stars and Recognition Awards. The ceremony recognised the achievements of more than 350 children aged five to 16, highlighting personal progress, education, creativity, sport and community kindness.

Councillor Gill Floyd, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said every child deserves to feel loved and celebrated, and praised the council’s role as a corporate parent that supports and encourages young people in care.

The event also thanked foster carers, council staff and partner organisations for their contributions, underscoring the council’s commitment to providing stability and opportunities for children in its care.
