Kirklees crackdown sees 60 domestic offenders arrested as courts address repeat dangerous driver

West Yorkshire Police announced that a week‑long operation across Kirklees and surrounding areas, including York and Scarborough, resulted in the arrest of 60 wanted offenders. The suspects faced a range of charges, notably serious sexual offences and assaults. Detective Inspector Richard Grace of the Kirklees District Safeguarding Unit said, "We operate a zero‑tolerance policy to any form of domestic abuse in Kirklees and remain determined to hunt down and arrest those suspected of this appalling offending."

In a separate proceeding at Kirklees Magistrates Court, 49‑year‑old Steven Garner, who has accumulated 49 prior convictions for dangerous driving and driving while banned, received six penalty points, a £365 fine and a reminder that his driving ban remains in force until September. Magistrates concluded, "Thank you for attending court. Good luck to you," after noting his record as "probably the worst" seen in four decades.
