Kiro Todorovski sent to Vienna as Macedonian intelligence envoy despite criminal conviction

Kiro Todorovski, a former intelligence officer convicted in the “Titanik” case, received a security clearance classified at the “state secret” level and was appointed as Macedonia’s diplomatic representative in Vienna. The conviction, a two‑year conditional sentence, became final on 18 May 2023. After being reinstated to the Agency for Intelligence in November 2025, Todorovski was granted the clearance in February 2026 and dispatched to Vienna in July 2026.

The opposition party Levica alleges that the appointment breaches legal security criteria, noting that the conviction should have barred access to classified information. Levica demands disclosure of who approved the clearance, the criteria used, and the budget impact of the benefits provided to Todorovski and his family. The intelligence agency rejected the accusations, stating that the selection procedures contain classified details and cannot be disclosed.
