KISA President Lee Sang-jung dismissed following audit
Lee Sang-jung, the president of the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), was dismissed from his position effective October 28. The dismissal follows an audit by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Presidential Office, which identified issues regarding career record entries, budget management, and the use of business promotion expenses.
KISA has appointed Ryu Jae-chul, a professor at Chungnam National University and a non-executive director at the agency, to serve as acting president to minimize operational gaps. KISA is currently preparing procedures to select a permanent successor in consultation with the Ministry of Science and ICT.
Lee expressed deep regret over the decision but challenged the severity of the disciplinary action. While acknowledging shortcomings in administrative processes, Lee maintained that the issues did not involve personal gain or undue favors. He stated that the dismissal is disproportionate to the errors and indicated intentions to seek legal verification of the decision's appropriateness.
