Kisan Union postpones Islamabad long march after government assurances
The Kisan Union has postponed its planned long march and sit-in toward Islamabad following assurances from the Balochistan provincial government. A government delegation, led by Provincial Minister Ali Madad Jatt and including MPA Mir Jehanzeb Mengal, met with Kisan Union President Khalid Bath to discuss agricultural grievances and sector-specific issues.
Khalid Bath stated that the decision to delay the protest was made in consideration of the current national situation and security concerns. Prior to the postponement, the union had planned the march to demand the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz due to dissatisfaction with agricultural policies and to address the rising economic hardships faced by farmers.
Broader political tensions in Pakistan continue to raise questions regarding the economic impact of protests. While opposition groups use marches to pressure the government, the state often responds with security measures such as road closures and container placements. Such disruptions can lead to significant daily economic losses, affecting daily wage earners, small businesses, and transport sectors.
