Kishau Dam: Six states sign MoU for multipurpose project
Six Indian states—Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand—have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Rs 15,624-crore Kishau Multipurpose Project. The agreement, signed in New Delhi under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, aims to resolve a long-standing dispute regarding the 660 MW dam on the Tons River, a tributary of the Yamuna.
The project is designed to enhance water security by providing drinking, irrigation, and industrial water to the participating states, while also generating hydropower. Officials noted that the project could assist in the rejuvenation of the Yamuna and Ganga rivers.
Under the agreement, the Central government will bear 90 per cent of the cost for its water component. The project, which is being implemented by Kishau Corporation Limited—a joint venture between Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand—will now be submitted to the Union Cabinet for final approval.
