Kishoreganj police re-arrest Awami League leader after handcuff escape
Police in Kuliarchar, Kishoreganj, have filed a case following the escape of Renu Mia, a local Awami League leader, while he was in handcuffs. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon during a raid at his home in the Madhabdi area of Chhaysooti Union.
According to reports, a crowd of approximately 20 to 25 people, including many women, surrounded the police during the arrest. In the ensuing commotion, Renu Mia managed to flee while still wearing handcuffs. During the struggle, several police officers, including Sub-Inspector Sharafinn Mia and Constables Bablu Mia and Sohel Rana, sustained injuries.
Following a nine-hour manhunt involving multiple teams and cordoning off the village, police successfully re-arrested Renu Mia near his home at approximately 9:50 PM on Monday. The escapee was still wearing the handcuffs at the time of his second arrest.
The police have filed a case naming 15 specific individuals and 20 to 25 unidentified persons. Several female family members were taken to the station for questioning; four have been sent to court, while three others were released after providing bonds.
