Kisii MCAs challenge Governor Simba Arati to exit office

Kisii County Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) have challenged Governor Simba Arati to include himself in the leadership overhaul he is calling for ahead of the 2027 General Election. Led by chairperson Bouse Mairura, the ward representatives argued that the governor cannot demand the replacement of other elected officials, such as the senator and woman representative, while exempting himself from similar scrutiny.

The dispute follows remarks made by Arati at the Agricultural Training Centre in Kisii town, where he urged residents to elect new leaders committed to development and service delivery rather than political confrontation. Mairura contended that Arati has failed to deliver on his own leadership promises and should be prepared to exit office if the county requires fresh leadership.

The political tension in Kisii is further heightened by Senator Richard Onyonka’s announcement of his intention to contest the governorship in 2027. Onyonka has suggested the formation of a united opposition front, potentially involving other political figures, as the 2027 election approaches.
