Kiso Tengai Film Festival 2026 to be held at Shinjuku K’s cinema

The Kiso Tengai Film Festival 2026 is scheduled to take place at K’s cinema in Shinjuku, Tokyo, running for five weeks from September 12 to October 16. The festival features a diverse lineup of cult and unconventional films.

Two primary highlights include Peter Jackson’s 1989 black comedy ‘Meet the Feebles’, which utilizes puppet-like characters, and Alain Resnais’ 1967 Cannes Best Screenplay winner ‘Comic Strip Hero’, featuring artwork by Guy Peeters.

Other scheduled screenings include ‘Steppenwolf’ (1974), ‘Spill the Beans’ (1959), the Z-grade horror film ‘Summer Camp Inferno’ (1983), and the surrealist comedy ‘Marquis’ (1989). The program also features Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s final film ‘Sleuth’ (1972), Alex Cox’s ‘Revenge Trilogy’ (2002), and Fritz Lang’s ‘Moonfleet’ (1955).

Additionally, the festival will host encore screenings of Yasuo Nakahira’s ‘Yami no Naka no Chimimimoryo’ (1971) and Ken Russell’s ‘The Devils’ (1971).
