KIST Medical College performs successful liver transplant on 5-year-old
The KIST Organ Transplant Centre at KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Lalitpur, Nepal, has successfully completed a living-donor liver transplant on a 5-year-old girl. The patient was suffering from critical Wilson’s disease, a rare genetic disorder characterized by excessive copper accumulation in vital organs.
The transplant was performed using a liver segment donated by the patient’s 33-year-old mother. Following the surgery and a period of intensive post-operative monitoring, the child has been discharged in stable condition.
