Kisumu: 15 suspected gang members arrested with crude weapons
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested 15 suspected gang members in Kisumu County following a coordinated operation along the Kisumu–Kericho highway. Detectives intercepted three vehicles—a grey Toyota Noah and two white Toyota Hiace vans—after receiving intelligence that the group was traveling with crude weapons.
During the search, authorities recovered several mobile phones, machetes, pangas, knives, ropes, and a metal rod or club. While 15 individuals were taken into custody, one suspect identified as Oliver Jaoko, also known as ‘Oliveti’, reportedly escaped through a vehicle window. Detectives have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who is believed to be the group's leader.
While some members of the public have alleged the group intended to cause violence at a rally in Homa Bay, these claims remain unverified by police. The suspects and recovered items are currently being processed pending arraignment.
