Kit Harington cast as Gilderoy Lockhart in HBO Harry Potter series
Kit Harington has been cast as Gilderoy Lockhart for the second season of the upcoming Harry Potter television series on HBO. Harington replaces Nicholas Hoult, who was initially announced for the role but had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts.
The series is planned as a decade-long adaptation, with each season based on one of the books in the fantasy saga. The first season is scheduled to premiere on HBO during Christmas 2026. The main cast includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
While official statements cite scheduling issues for the casting change, some speculation has emerged regarding the departure of Hoult, though no official confirmation of alternative motives has been provided.
