Kitchen design trends for 2027 are shifting toward alternatives to the central island, particularly for small or open-plan kitchens. Designers note that while islands are visually appealing in 2D renderings, they often create circulation issues in real-world use.

In compact spaces, an open dishwasher door can occupy 60 to 70 centimeters of floor space, which, when combined with pulled-back chairs, can block walkways and jam movement. To address these spatial constraints, wall-mounted bars are emerging as a trendy alternative to the traditional island.
