Kitchen renovation trends favor retro aesthetics and durable materials

Current kitchen renovation trends are shifting toward a balance of historical aesthetics and modern functionality. One prominent movement is the resurgence of retro-style tiles, such as checkerboard or fish scale patterns, which are being used in specific areas like backsplashes to add character without overwhelming the space. Additionally, terrazzo is seeing a revival, often paired with natural wood and metallic finishes to create texture.

In terms of material durability, professionals are advising against the use of marble in high-traffic kitchen areas. Construction engineer David López notes that marble's porous nature makes it highly susceptible to permanent staining from liquids like wine, oil, or lemon juice. Due to these maintenance challenges and the risk of damage, alternatives such as quartz and granite are becoming more popular for countertops.
