Kitimat water treatment plant commissioning causes pressure fluctuations

Residents in Kitimat can expect fluctuating water pressure and temporary water discolouration as the commissioning of a new water treatment plant continues through September. The District of Kitimat is actively working to address disruptions caused by the transition, which is the final stage before the facility enters full operation.

The new plant incorporates water conditioning, sand filtration, and UV disinfection. This upgrade, which follows more than four years of work, is designed to significantly reduce the frequency of water quality advisories in the community.

Individuals experiencing discoloured water are advised to run their cold water taps until the water runs clear. A precautionary Water Quality Advisory may be issued during this period if sampling is required to confirm water safety.
