Kitwe police charge 18 people following bus station riot

Police in Kitwe have charged 18 individuals following an incident of riotous behaviour and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace at the Kitwe Local Bus Station on August 19, 2026.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Rae Hamoonga stated that four bus station leaders were charged with conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace. Additionally, 14 other suspects were jointly charged with unlawful assembly. One suspect, David Kaputo, was released on police bond after alleging he had been assaulted. The remaining 17 suspects remain in police custody and are expected to appear in court soon.
