Kitzbühel expands family hiking with new interactive trails

Kitzbühel is expanding its tourism offerings with the introduction of ‘Spielend Wandern’ (Hiking Playfully) paths in the villages of Aurach and Jochberg. This initiative, which utilizes a web app for audio guidance, is designed to turn hiking into an interactive adventure for families through nature games and experience stations.

Kitzbühel is noted as the first destination to implement this specific family concept across multiple paths. The region, which features over 1,000 kilometers of hiking trails, continues to hold the ‘European Hiking Quality’ seal. Aurach and Jochberg, members of Austria’s hiking villages since 2022, were re-certified in 2024 with honors valid through 2027.

Beyond hiking, the region offers diverse seasonal activities, including mountain biking on trails like the Kirchberg Trail and golf at four local courses. Upcoming culinary events include KITZ Kulinarik in late August and a specialized event pairing local specialties with Piedmont products in October 2026.
