Kjell Scherpen close to move from Union Saint‑Gilloise to Ipswich Town
Dutch goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen, 26, is nearing a transfer from Belgian club Union Saint‑Gilloise to England's Ipswich Town, which will play in the Premier League after promotion. Union initially sought a fee of around €15 million, but negotiations indicate the final amount will be lower. The Belgian side wants a proper compensation because it must share a future resale percentage with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Union bought Scherpen for roughly €2 million and he has become a key player, recording 21 clean sheets in 43 matches last season and conceding 38 goals. He missed Union’s recent friendly against Lille amid the ongoing talks. Transfermarkt values him at about €8 million.
