KKE criticizes New Democracy MP over cost of living comments

The Pieria Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) has issued a sharp critique of statements made by New Democracy MP Sotiria Koulkoudina regarding the cost of living. The KKE condemned Koulkoudina’s suggestion that citizens struggling with high fuel costs should use public transportation, labeling the remarks as cynical and detached from reality.

The KKE highlighted that public transport in Katerini is expensive, with ticket prices reportedly double those of the Thessaloniki Metro, and suffers from insufficient frequency and an outdated fleet. The party contrasted the high costs faced by workers and farmers with the tax-free fuel benefits available to shipowners.

To combat the rising cost of living, the KKE is calling for immediate relief measures, including the abolition of VAT and Special Consumption Taxes on fuels, electricity, heating oil, and natural gas. Additionally, they are demanding price caps on energy products and limits on the profits of refineries and energy corporations.
