KKL-JNF approves US$285m investment plan for northern Israel
Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF) has approved a three-year, NIS 859 million (approximately US$285 million) investment plan to strengthen northern Israel. This represents the organization’s largest-ever financial outlay for the region, covering areas from the Lower Galilee and Sea of Galilee to the Golan Heights.
The plan focuses on infrastructure, housing, education, and community development. Key allocations include NIS 362 million for local authority infrastructure and public spaces, and NIS 150 million to purchase apartments for teachers and educational groups at reduced rents to encourage population growth. Additionally, NIS 120 million is designated for community development, with specific funds earmarked for mixed cities such as Nof HaGalil, Karmiel, and Acre.
Other investments include NIS 76 million for four new Houses of Excellence in Nahariya, Afula, Karmiel, and Tiberias to provide youth educational programs. The fund also allocated NIS 32.5 million to 12 communities located within two kilometers of the Lebanese border and NIS 2.5 million for fire protection at Kibbutz Hanita. KKL-JNF chairman Eyal Ostrinsky stated that the plan aims to build a safer and stronger future for the region's residents.
