KKR acquires minority stake in Malaysia’s Avisena Healthcare

Global investment firm KKR has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a minority stake in Malaysian healthcare provider Avisena Healthcare. While the specific financial terms and the exact size of the stake were not disclosed, previous reports suggested the deal could be valued between RM300 million and RM400 million.

The investment is intended to fund Avisena’s expansion, including the enhancement of multi-specialty services at its flagship hospitals in Shah Alam and the development of new greenfield hospitals within the Klang Valley. This move comes amid rising demand for private medical services in Southeast Asia, driven by aging populations and increasing incomes.

Avisena has operated in the region since 1996 and currently manages the Avisena Specialist Hospital and Avisena Specialist Hospital 2. KKR’s broader healthcare portfolio in the Asia-Pacific region includes assets such as Medical Saigon Group in Vietnam and Metro Pacific Hospital in the Philippines.
