KKR invests in Cisternina Logistics to expand Indian liquid storage

Global investment firm KKR is making a majority investment in Cisternina Logistics Pvt Ltd to establish a pan-India liquid and gas storage and logistics platform. The investment is being executed through KKR’s Asia Pacific infrastructure strategy.

The capital will support Cisternina’s proposed acquisition of the liquid storage terminal and rail business from Ganesh Benzoplast Limited (GBL). This acquisition serves as the platform’s anchor asset, featuring one of India’s leading privately owned tank farms at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port. The current portfolio includes approximately 500,000 kiloliters of storage capacity across strategic locations such as JNPT, Cochin, and Goa.

Cisternina aims to serve the energy, chemicals, bulk liquids, and edible oil sectors. The company plans to scale its operations through further acquisitions, brownfield expansions, and greenfield developments. This move targets a fragmented market, noting that approximately 95% of India’s external trade by volume is handled via coastal infrastructure.
